Come see Terrain at Joyce SoHo!

ear friends and family,

What a year! Personally, creatively, culturally, and politically it is a moment of transformation and growth. Fundraising is never an easy task, but now it truly is harder than ever to find sources of funding for the creation and production of art. But I believe the arts have become more important than ever in this time of upheaval to provide meaningful connections to our communities help us make sense of our world and ourselves. Please join us at one of our five performances and please consider making a donation of any size to help ensure this season surpasses expectations.

The 2008/2009 performance season marks an unprecedented moment in Terrain's history. We will perform our first full evening of work since 2004 at The Joyce Theater Foundation's Joyce SoHo theater January 29-31, 2009. Additional performances include showcases at Dance Conversations at The Flea on November 17th; Movement Research at Judson Church on November 18th; and Symphony Space Dance Sampler on April 25. We will also perform at Princeton University during the Now Dance-Faculty Performance on November 21 & 22 on a program with dances by Mark Morris and Yvonne Rainer. It is because of your support that I have been able to sustain my high level of creative production over the past 10 years and that we will be seen by wider audiences this year. Yet, as none of these opportunities fully cover the expenses for each event, I turn to you, my community, and ask that you help make each of these performances an artistic and economic success.

Our January season at Joyce SoHo is a very important event to me and it would mean a great deal to have you there to see the culmination of four years of work. I have gathered an incredible creative team to help me realize our January season: two time Bessie awarding winning Lighting Designer Aaron Copp will transform the space to a theater in the round for Terminal and a proscenium stage during Serenade. Jeremy Olson, a former student at Princeton and member of the production team at The Joyce Theater, will be designing the set and is our production manager. Gregory Spears composed the score for Terminal as well as collaborated with me during the creation of Serenade on the sound design for the Pytor Tchaikovsky score. Mary Jo Mecca has designed the costumes for Terminal and Heidi Barr has costumed Serenade. The fantastic dancers are Jennifer Lafferty, Rommel Salveron, Emily Stone, Storme Sundberg, and Christopher Williams.

Tickets are only $10 and children under 10 can attend the matinee for free. Opening night, Thursday, January 29th will be our benefit for $25. Tickets for the benefit can be purchased directly by mail (simply send check in the enclosed envelope and you will receive an email confirmation.) Tickets to all shows are available for purchase online at Ovation Tickets and through the Joyce website here. I have purposely kept ticket prices low to lessen the barriers to attending events. Each performance will include a post-show question and answer session and a reception with dancers and collaborators. It is of profound importance to me that we perform for as many people as possible. While these dances have existed in dancers, the collaborators and me for a long time, it is not until they are performed for an audience that they come alive.

Thank you so much in advance — it is truly a pleasure to share our dancing with you, and I look forward to seeing you all soon.
